Understanding Man operates this website at https://understandingman.blog. This policy explains what information the site may process, why it is used, and the choices available to visitors.
Comments
When visitors leave comments, the site processes the information entered in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string for moderation, security, and spam detection. An anonymized string created from an email address may be provided to Gravatar to determine whether the commenter uses that service. After a comment is approved, its profile image may be publicly visible with the comment.
Cookies and consent choices
The site uses necessary cookies for essential operation and for remembering cookie-consent choices. Optional Analytics, Marketing, and Preferences categories start denied. Visitors can choose Accept all, Reject all, or Customize, and can reopen Cookie settings to change or withdraw a choice.
If a visitor chooses to save comment details, the site may store the supplied name, email address, and website in convenience cookies for up to one year. Login and administration cookies apply only to people who sign in to WordPress and are used for authentication, security, and display settings.
Consent records
The cookie-consent system stores a consent cookie in the visitor’s browser so the site can remember accepted or rejected categories. It also keeps a local consent record containing a SHA-256 hash derived from the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string, the consent choice and categories, the consent-system version, and a timestamp. These local records are used for consent administration and are automatically deleted after 13 months. They are not sent to an external consent-management account.
Google Analytics
When a visitor allows Analytics cookies, Understanding Man uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate website traffic and how visitors use the site. Analytics may process information such as page views, approximate location, device and browser information, referral source, scroll activity, outbound-link clicks, and other site interactions. Understanding Man does not intentionally send names, email addresses, comment text, payment information, or other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.
Google Site Kit and Google consent mode are configured so Analytics storage is denied by default and updated after the visitor makes a choice. Logged-in WordPress administrators are excluded from Analytics tracking. Google Ads, AdSense, Tag Manager, audience creation, personalized advertising, and marketing pixels are not enabled under this setup.

Embedded content and service providers
Articles may include embedded content such as videos or images. Embedded content can behave as if the visitor went directly to the provider’s website. Where supported, optional third-party embeds are blocked until the visitor accepts the corresponding cookie category.
The site is hosted by WordPress.com and may use Automattic services such as Jetpack, Akismet, and Gravatar for hosting, security, spam prevention, performance, comments, and related site functions. These providers may process technical information as described in their own privacy notices.
Retention and visitor rights
Approved comments and their metadata may be retained so follow-up comments can be recognized and moderated. Consent records are retained for up to 13 months. Other information is kept only as long as needed for the stated purpose, site security, legal obligations, or dispute resolution.
Depending on location, visitors may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of personal information and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. Cookie consent can be withdrawn through Cookie settings. Other privacy requests can be submitted through the contact method published on this site.
Sale of personal information and policy updates
Understanding Man does not sell personal information. This policy may be updated when site practices or services change. The current version will remain available on this page.
